DALLAS — A new minimum on-street parking meter rate in the city of Dallas took effect on Tuesday.

The cost at most parking meters around the city will now be a minimum of $1 an hour, the city said. These increased rates will be implemented on individual meters over the next several weeks.

Meters that already had a rate of $1 an hour will remain at that cost, the city said. Only meters below that rate will see an increase.

Dallas attributed this rate increase to most parking rates in the city not changing in more than 10 years. This hike was approved by Dallas City Council in May to manage demand and keep up with inflation.

The only area not affected by this (for now) is Deep Ellum. That neighborhood will not see a rate increase until May 9, 2026 due to the ongoing reconstruction of Commerce Street.
