DALLAS — The Dallas officer who wrote “aim better” in a social media post after the July assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump was suspended for 30 days without pay, sources tell WFAA.
Dallas Police Sgt. Arturo Martinez was initially placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
The Dallas Police Department previously said it received an internal complaint on July 13 "regarding a member of the Dallas Police Department and a comment made on a social media platform."
A screenshot shared with WFAA showed the social media post made by Martinez.
The post came in the wake of the assassination attempt against Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pa. The FBI identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pa., the next day.
Martinez has been with the department for about 14 years and is the supervisor of Dallas PD's robbery unit. Martinez was also the organizer of the "Blue for Black Lives Matter” demonstration where several hundred officers and protesters marched together in solidarity in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
Martinez’s suspension comes the same week three other Dallas police officers were fired following disciplinary hearings with Interim Dallas Police Chief Michael Igo for separate violations.
