DALLAS — A Dallas man died after an inflatable raft he was in went over a waterfall during a remote river rafting trip in western Alaska, according to Alaska state troopers.

Larry Erwin, 53, lost control of the raft and was ejected into the water shortly before 6:30 p.m. July 19, state troopers say. The incident happened about 53 miles southeast of the Alaska town of Bethel.

Erwin didn’t show any signs of life when he was pulled ashore, officials say.

The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center responded, and Erwin’s body was taken back to Bethel by helicopter, along with others who went on the trip, troopers say.

The Alaska State Medical Examiner and next of kin have been notified, officials say.

Additional information, including which river the incident occurred on, wasn’t immediately available.
