A Dallas firefighter is out of the hospital one day after being trapped in a massive condominium fire and suffering smoke inhalation.
Firefighter John Rowland was one of three rescued from the second story of the Cambridge Park Condominiums on Tuesday by the Dallas Fire-Rescue "Rapid Intervention Team".
Dallas Fire Chief David Coatney on Wednesday described in detail how the third floor of the complex collapsed in on the three firefighters.
“The wiring in the ceiling pinned the members down to the ground,” Coatney said. "As they (RIT) approached the firefighters, the firefighters were running out of air so the window on this rescue was very narrow.”
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said he spoke with Rowland, along with Lt. Patti Krafft and firefighter Tamika Lamb at the hospital on Tuesday.
"All of them said they are alive because of their training," Rawlings told council members on Wednesday.
The 4-alarm fire at 11460 Audeila Road destroyed 24 condominiums, displaced 60 people and took more than four hours to extinguish.
