DALLAS — Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is warning the community of an alleged scam that is targeting people who post their lost pets on PawBoost, a national database of lost and found pets.
According to a Facebook post from DAS, the scammers are reportedly pretending to be members of the DAS "Urgent Care Team," which doesn't exist. The scammers then tell the owners that their pets are at DAS, but they require life-saving surgery.
DAS said in the post that these scammers are demanding payments for the "surgeries" on CashApp. However, DAS said it would never request payment over the phone or withhold life-saving care for any injured pets.
Dallas Animal Services asks anyone who may receive a call about this to not provide any payment information and to call the police.
