DALLAS — Upscale neighborhood grocery chain Berkley’s Market is opening a new store in Uptown in a former Foxtrot Market Space.
Berkley’s Market recently closed two of its four Dallas locations (one downtown at 1800 Main Street and another in Oak Cliff at 634 W. Davis Street) and at that time, said they planned to open another store soon.
The new 4,100-square-foot Uptown location at 2822 McKinney Avenue, set to open this fall, will feature indoor seating as well as a patio.
“At Berkley’s Market, our goal is to be the go-to spot in every neighborhood we serve,” said Berkley’s Market founder Zac Porter. “Whether it’s a morning coffee run, lunch or dinner to-go, stocking up their pantry and fridge, or a wine happy hour with friends, we want our customers to feel at home and know they can find everything they need in one place.”
Berkley’s Market offers groceries, prepared foods, coffee, beer and wine, and the new Uptown location will serve as a “test kitchen” for experimenting with new prepared food options.
“We’re leaning further into our prepared foods program here, while still offering our core favorites,” said Porter. “Our food quality is top-notch, and I’d put our coffee program up against anyone’s. We’ve partnered with La Colombe for our coffee since day one, and we’re proud to source pastries locally from La Casita and bagels from Shug’s.”
The downtown Berkley’s Market that closed opened in 2018 and the Oak Cliff location opened in 2022, the Dallas Business Journal reported.
Berkley’s Market was created as an offshoot of Royal Blue Grocery and all locations of Royal Blue Grocery were converted to Berkley's Market stores around 2021.
The two remaining Berkley’s Market locations include a nearly 5,000-square-foot store at 3300 Knox Street, which opened in August 2023 and inside Trammell Crow Center downtown at 2001 Ross Avenue.
Another specialty grocery chain, Chicago-based Foxtrot, earlier this year closed all its stores across the country, including four in the Dallas area and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Foxtrot says it plans to reopen some of its closed stores in Dallas and Chicago in 2025.
