ROWLETT – Detectives with Rowlett Police named James Villeda, 29, as a second person of interest on Thursday in the murder of bride-to-be Laura Grillo in November.
According to court documents obtained by News 8, Villeda is a co-worker of the other person of interest in the case – Jesus Trevino.
Detectives have been looking for Trevino for more than one month and believe he likely fled to Mexico.
Investigators say Trevino and Villeda were both employed by Grillo’s fiance John Makris in a home remodeling business.
And that’s not where their similarities end.
Both are also convicted sex offenders. Villeda received seven years' probation for sexual assault of a child in 2014.
Reached by phone Thursday, Makris said he didn’t know Villeda well and that he and his fiancé had only employed Villeda for a couple weeks.
“I’m glad detectives are making progress in her murder, they need to find out what happened,” Makris said.
Makris told News 8 in an interview two weeks ago he was surprised Trevino, a groomsman in his upcoming wedding, could possibly be involved.
"What runs in my mind all the time is the why,” Makris said. “Why why why."
In court documents obtained by News 8 – Rowlett Police say Trevino, Villeda and Makris were all together the day the mother of three was shot dead in her kitchen.
Right now detectives are emphasizing that no one has been named a suspect and their investigation is on-going.
There is an active $5000 reward from North Texas Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest and indictment of Jesus Trevino on the outstanding warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.
