Drone operator officer injured in crash while responding to Dallas County police chase

A drone operator officer was called to the scene to help officers look for the suspect.

DALLAS — A drone operator police officer was injured while responding to a chase involving a sexual assault suspect in Dallas County early Thursday morning, police said.

The incident started around 4:15 a.m. in Grand Prairie. Officers saw the suspect fleeing the location where the assault was reported and they began chasing him.

The chase came to an end on Interstate 20 near Mountain Creek Parkway, where the suspect stopped in the median of the highway and ran away. A drone operator officer was called to the scene to help officers look for the suspect. But when the officer was arriving at the scene, they were hit from behind by another vehicle.

The officer and the other driver were treated for minor injuries.

The suspect in the chase was ultimately found and arrested, police said. The suspect's name has not been released, and more information about the case was not immediately available.
