Dallas City Council member stuck in City Hall elevator for hour before being freed by Dallas Fire-Rescue

A working weekend at the office got off to a bumpy start for Dallas Council Member Gay Donnell Willis on Saturday morning.

DALLAS — As working weekends go, it was a normal Saturday morning for Dallas City Council Member Gay Donnell Willis -- until it wasn't.

In a thread of posts shared to X this morning, Willis, who represents District 13 in the horseshoe at Dallas City Hall, live-posted about being stuck in an elevator that was in-between floors at 1500 Marilla Street.

"May be taking a harder look at the City Hall maintenance budget as I rest between two floors this morning," Willis quipped. "At least I brought Starbucks scones and coffee for the meeting."

Dallas Fire-Rescue told WFAA that crews responded to the City Hall incident at approximately 9:41 a.m. Saturday morning and were able to pry the doors open to free Willis.

In another comment seemingly made in jest, Willis said she was asked if there is a top hatch to the elevator car she was in, and added "I thought this Gap T-shirt dress was a good idea this morning."

Nearly an hour after her initial post on X about being stuck, Willis reported to her followers that she'd been freed from "Elevator 8 - Red" and thanked DFR for their assistance

Added the council member in her final post on the matter: "Now going to look at line item detail on City Hall maintenance…"
