DALLAS — The Dallas city attorney is planning to retire next month, according to an email sent to city officials.
Chris Caso announced his plans to retire Feb. 28 "to spend more time with my family and to pursue other interests," his email said.
"I have greatly enjoyed my 17+ years with the City and look forward to embarking on the next chapter in my life," Caso said.
Caso's retirement announcement comes one week before he was expected to receive his annual performance review from the Dallas City Council, The Dallas Morning News reported.
The performance review had been delayed twice going back to last year.
Caso joined the city attorney's office in 2005 and was appointed City Attorney in April 2020. Caso had been serving as the interim city attorney following the departure of Larry Casto, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2018.
The city attorney's office represents Dallas in various legal matters, including trial court and appellate litigation, zoning and land use, First Amendment issues and open records requests and matters.
The city attorney role is the third-highest paid city job, at $325,000 per year, behind the city manager ($423,247) and the employees' retirement fund administrator ($351,829).
