DALLAS — Dallas-based Cooper Aerobics is notifying nearly 90,000 customers that hackers potentially accessed their personal information during an attack last year, according to a notice on their website.
In the notice filed last week with the state attorney general’s office, the health and wellness company says the data breach happened on Feb. 3, 2023, and that it “immediately began efforts to remediate the issue and commenced a prompt and thorough investigation.”
“As part of our investigation, we have been working very closely with external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling these types of incidents,” Cooper’s notice reads. “After an extensive forensic investigation and manual document review, we discovered on December 8, 2023, that certain files that contain personal or protected health information were potentially removed from our network by the unauthorized party on February 3, 2023.”
The potentially-impacted data includes names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, birth dates, credit or debit card numbers, financial accounts and routing numbers, tax identification numbers, driver’s license or government identification, passport and Social Security numbers, and health information, according to the notice.
The company says it’s not aware of any instances of the information being used for identity theft or financial fraud but encouraged those potentially affected to take steps like placing fraud alerts on their credit files and monitoring their accounts and credit reports.
Cooper Aerobics says they’re offering free credit monitoring services to those potentially impacted and set up a dedicated response line at 1-833-956-1125, available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
