UFC President Dana White says AT&T Stadium 'could be a player' for Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler fight

The date and venue has yet to be decided, but Jerry World could be the home of the fight.

DALLAS — UFC star Conor McGregor is set to fight the Michael Chandler in his return since injury against Dustin Poirier back in 2021.

The pay-per-view bout will come after the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter, where the two will serve as opposing team coaches. The show is set to air on ESPN starting May 30.

A date and venue is yet to be decided for the McGregor-Chandler fight, but AT&T Stadium could be in the running to host it.

On the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, UFC President Dana White said the 80,000-capacity stadium (expandable to 105,000 seats) "could be a player" to be the fight's venue.

“We’ve always wanted to do Dallas, Texas Stadium," he said. “Who knows? That could be a player for the Conor fight. You never know. We’ll see how it plays out.”

McGregor, a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, has shown interest in fighting at AT&T Stadium in the past. In October of 2020, McGregor tweeted that he wanted to fight Poirier inside AT&T Stadium on Jan. 23, 2021. That fight ended up taking place in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 24, 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

McGregor lost to Poirier, which then led to the rematch in July 2021 in Las Vegas, where he broke his leg mid-match. McGregor hasn't fought since.

White said the other obvious players for the upcoming fight would be Madison Square Garden and Las Vegas. It is noteworthy that seven of McGregor's nine PPV bouts have been in Las Vegas, with the other two taking place in Madison Square Garden and in Abu Dhabi.

AT&T Stadium is no stranger to hosting the biggest sporting events in the world, either. Jerry World has hosted multiple boxing matches, including the 2021 Canelo Alvarez-Billy Joe Saunders fight, which was named the largest indoor boxing event in U.S. history hosting 73,126 fans.

It also holds attendance records for WWE's WrestleMania in 2016 and 2022.

Whether or not it happens at Jerry World is yet to be seen, but the interest in the fight will be massive.

“The [McGregor vs.] Chandler fight is a fight that people love,” White told McAfee. “It’s gonna be — that fight is going to be absolute violence. Absolute violence.”

McGregor has headlined five of the six highest-grossing UFC events of all-time.
