PLANO, Texas — A man is accused of allegedly using a bar to attack a tow truck driver who was in the process of towing his mother's car in Plano early Friday morning, police said.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Plano police said they received several calls from people who heard someone yelling "put the gun down" before hearing a gunshot in a parking lot near at the intersection of Scruggs Way and Hansell Road.

According to police, a tow truck driver was in the process of towing a car he'd been asked to remove from the premises when a woman and her son approached him, and the son used a bar to hit the tow truck driver three times in the head.

Police said that, while he was getting hit, the tow truck driver pulled a gun out and fired a round off in an attempt to get the son to stop hitting him. That round, police said, was lodged in a tire, and no other damage or injuries were sustained as a result of the gunshot.

According to police, it was the tow truck driver's son, who was also on the scene, who was yelling for the gun to be put down.

Police said the son of the car owner was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the tow truck driver was released.
