Omni Frisco holds topping out ceremony at The Star

FRISCO -- It won't be open to guests for about a year, but the Omni Frisco Star Hotel was full of people Wednesday morning.

Dozens showed up for the "topping out" ceremony, including Mayor Maher Maso and Dallas Cowboys' Owner Jerry Jones, who partnered with the Omni for construction of the new site.

"If you want to see a road map of city growth and innovation, Frisco is it," Maso said.

The Omni's construction is one of the city's most high-profile projects, but it's not alone.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Frisco is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. City leaders say the areas schools are evidence of major growth, growing from five or six 15 years ago, to more than 60 today.

"People hear the numbers we have here and they don't believe me -- especially other mayors," Mayor Maso said.

It's not just city leaders from across the globe taking note of Frisco's growth. Businessmen, like Jeffery Smith with Omni, are also attracted to the booming population.

"The decision was natural and easy. It's one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, and we want to be a part of that," Smith said.

Omni got its wish, securing a deal with the Cowboys organization to build the Omni Frisco Star Hotel along the city's "five-billion dollar mile."

Contractors say the hotel should be done by summer 2017.
