FRISCO With a unanimous vote on Tuesday night, the Frisco City Council named an architect for the new Dallas Cowboys training facility project: A global firm called Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates.
The vote happened in a flash, and was certainly not indicative of the work that likely went into it.
Gensler will take over design of a multi-use special events and sports facility. As part of the process, the city received applications from five architectural firms. A special selection committee of project participants narrowed the list down to one.
The architecture firm isn't new to the sports venue design world. It's same company that worked on the Detroit Lions training facilities, and also built the spring training facility for the New York Mets.
The project in Frisco is set to go on a 91-acre mega-compound at the northwest corner of Warren Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway.
Amenities for the facilities include a football stadium that seats 12,000, suites and club seating, two outdoor grass fields, and an NFL training room facility.
Tuesday's vote is just the beginning in a long road to building that Cowboys compound.
