Another corporate heavyweight in Dallas is packing its bags and heading to Plano.

This time, it's mortgage giant Fannie Mae, which says it provides affordable mortgage credit nationwide..

Dallas is currently home to the second-largest number of employees outside the headquarters of the Federal National Mortgage Association in Washington, D.C.  But those workers are scattered at three different sites around Dallas.

On Tuesday night, we reached a spokesman who confirmed that Fannie Mae will consolidate its operations and relocate its entire Dallas workforce to a new 300,000-square-foot office park in Plano.

Sources said the new building that will house them will be constructed at Granite Park, at the intersection of the Sam Rayburn Tollway and the Dallas North Tollway. So far, no timeline has been given.

The company won't disclose how many workers are involved, or why they chose Plano rather than staying in Dallas.

Fannie Mae spokesman Andrew Wilson said the workers include specialists who help struggling homeowners, and those who deal with properties that have been foreclosed upon. Wilson said consolidating the workers under one roof will result in a reduced office footprint in North Texas, which will result in greater efficiency and a savings in overall operating costs.
