Family finds solace that twins died together

Karen Bigham and her twin sister, Kathy Boobar, were always together. So their family wasn't surprised the two shared the last moments of their lives.

"They came into this world together and they left this world together," said Tim Boobar, Kathy's husband.

MCKINNEY — Karen Bigham and her twin sister, Kathy Boobar, were always together. So their family wasn't surprised the two shared the last moments of their lives.

"They came into this world together and they left this world together," said Tim Boobar, Kathy's husband.

The family says the sisters were at Karen's house when her husband, Kelley Bigham, showed up. Their daughter Kylie was also there with her young son when Bigham told her to leave.

"Kylie says she heard two gunshots," read the arrest warrant. "After the first gunshot she heard a woman scream."

"She stepped out and subsequently heard what had happened."

The family says Karen Bigham and her husband had been separated for about six months and she told him she wanted a divorce. Their daughter told police last Wednesday that Bigham threatened to kill Karen and had a handgun.

The family says they thought about calling police after but never imagined this would happen.

"Nothing that you would ever think to be concerned about physically," Boobar said.

Police say the sisters were shot in the head. According to the arrest affidavit, after the shooting, Bigham texted his daughter, "I'm sorry."

Their family says while it's tragic the sisters were killed, there's some peace in knowing they were together.

"As our pastor said this morning, he shared with us, he said, 'Think of it this way — that if Kathy had not been there to support and help protect Karen she would just have been devastated,'" Tim Boobar said.

The family says they want the women remembered by how they lived their lives, helping others. Both were involved in multiple charities.

Pictures of the sisters show them during happy times. Those are the images family and friends want people to rememberer.

Kathy Boobar was an avid member of the Junior League of Collin County. The group released the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim, Carly, Kathy and Karen's family and their friends. Kathy had an amazing and kind spirit. She served as a volunteer in the Junior League of Collin County and in the community for many years with grace and humility. She had a great smile, a generous laugh, and a servant's heart. We are family here at the Junior League of Collin County bonded together by our mission in the community and we will miss Kathy greatly. Her impact on our organization, on our members and on the citizens of our community is great and will be lasting."
