Evacuation order lifted for part of Melissa after natural gas main contained

Construction crews working near Melissa Road and Fannin Street accidentally damaged the gas main Tuesday morning, officials say.

MELISSA, Texas — An evacuation has been lifted for a portion of Melissa after construction crews accidentally damaged a natural gas main on Tuesday morning, officials say.

According to a Facebook post by the Melissa Fire Department, crews were working near Melissa Road and Fannin Street where the break happened. Just before 3 p.m., the City said the leak had been isolated but has not ey lifted the evacuation order.

The order was lifted shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday. The city said those who evacuated may return home. 

Atmos energy will go door-to-door to reconnect gas, the city said.

The evacuation was ordered for the area of West Melissa Road and East of Fannin Street, officials say. A shelter has been set up for those residents evacuating at the high school cafeteria at 3030 Milrany Lane.
