North Texas road shutting down for nearly a month for U.S. 380 construction

Both southbound and northbound lanes of Teel Parkway will be shut down.

DENTON, Texas — A North Texas road will shut down for nearly a month for the ongoing construction project along U.S. 380 in the Prosper area.

Teel Parkway will close north of U.S. 380, starting Nov. 6 through Nov. 26, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Both southbound and northbound lanes of Teel Parkway will be shut down during the closure.

TxDOT crews will post detour and closure signs in the area soon.

"That area has grown expeditiously in the last decade," said Tila Grant, a spokesperson with TxDOT.

Grant said crews are working to complete the project as quickly as they can.

"Some people are saying the wait at some of those signals is a bit long, so once we get all of this done, of course, traffic will flow much more smoothly, people will be able to get in and out of their neighborhoods," said Grant.

The shutdown is a result of the $135 million improvement plan along U.S. 380 from Loop 288 in Denton to the Collin County line. The project began in 2022 and was expected to last at least three years.

The project will widen 380 to three lanes on both sides and also elevate the highway over five different intersections so drivers can avoid stoplights. Frontage roads will have improved intersections and turn lanes to help separate and move traffic, too.

However, with these positive changes on the horizon, residents and businesses nearby are struggling with the ongoing construction.

Along the stretch of road sits the Starwood Cafe in Aubrey. Jennifer Jackson is the manager of the Cafe and says the construction has slowed down business over the last several months.

"Who can make it through another year of this," said Jackson. "It's like Texas just builds apartment buildings everywhere and housing developments everywhere and then decides to fix the roads after," she said.

Jackon said she hopes once the construction is finally finished, it will bring more people into the Cafe.
