McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — A Dallas man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for driving his car into some people standing outside a bar and killing one of his friends.
Prosecutors say the 2014 alcohol-fueled case involved 24-year-old Benjamin Newman being upset when bar employees tried to stop him from driving.
Newman was sentenced Friday in McKinney after a Collin County jury convicted him of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Prosecutor say Christopher Brigman was killed and two Plano bar workers hurt in an intentional incident in the parking lot. Authorities say Newman and Brigman earlier were drinking at the bar. Newman's blood alcohol level was more than twice the Texas 0.08 percent legal limit for driving.
The defense said the deadly wreck was an accident.
