Car fire kills Frisco woman, injures husband

The car was engulfed in "heavy" flames when firefighters arrived
An elderly woman died and her husband was critically injured when their car went up in flames outside Baylor Medical Center at Frisco.

There's no explanation yet for a car fire in Frisco that killed a woman and critically injured her husband on Wednesday afternoon.

A news release from the city said the vehicle was parked in a driveway near the Baylor Medical Center at Frisco on Warren Parkway when firefighters were summoned at 1:17 p.m. They found the car engulfed in "heavy" flames with the Frisco couple inside.

Marilyn Savoy, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 78-year-old husband Robert Savoy was airlifted to the Parkland Memorial Hospital burn unit in Dallas for treatment, according to the city's statement.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.

A portion of the hospital was briefly evacuated after smoke from the fire set off warning alarms.
