EUSTACE, Texas — UPDATE -- The gas leak was resolved on Nov. 17, 2021, by the Railroad Commission of Texas. The stress crack within the pipe was removed and replaced with new piping. Third-party testing occurred on the internal conditions of the pipe residing next to the replaced one to investigate the likelihood of replacing more piping. The conditions of the adjacent pipe did not meet the definition of Incident per 49 CFR Part 191.3, which would entail replacing more piping, which lead the RRC to close the case.

The Texas Railroad Commission is investigating a gas leak that occurred Friday night in Eustace.

According to city authorities, the gas leak occurred in the Purtis Creek area of Van Zandt County.

"The Railroad Commission is investigating the reported gas leak in Van Zandt County," the RR said in a statement. "The RRC’s report will be available upon completion of the investigation."

The UIL Texas high school football bi-district matchup between Mart and Clarksville that was taking place at Eustace High School was called during the 4th quarter due to the evacuation. Mart came away with the 84-6 win.

CBS19 has a crew on scene and will update this article as more information becomes available.
