City of Anna welcomes new fire station to keep up with rapid growth

Chief Ray Isom said when he started working at the department back in 2017, the station they were in was originally built in 1975 and located by city hall.

ANNA, Texas — The city of Anna is one of the fastest-growing cities in North Texas. To keep up with that growth, the city is making sure its infrastructure matches that speed.

“Anna’s recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in the country,” said City Manager Ryan Henderson. Henderson said over the last 14 years, the city has nearly doubled in population size.

He said in 2010, Anna was home to roughly 10,000 people. Now, that number touches 30,000.

To keep up with that growth, the city recently opened its newest fire station. Located on Standridge Blvd, this is the department’s second station in three years.

Chief Ray Isom said when he started working at the department back in 2017, the station they were in was originally built in 1975 and located by city hall.

He said they built the newest station on the city’s west side because it’s an area that is growing at a rapid rate.

“We now respond to 2700 calls a year versus when I started, it was 1200 or so,” said Isom.

Chief Isom said the department now has 45 people along with the new building.

Chief Isom said over the next few years, he expects the department to grow even more. “Over the next 30 to 40 years the Anna Fire Department will be anywhere from 12 to 14 stations.”

Chief Isom said the newest station also came equipped with up-to-date gear.
