SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Carroll Elementary School in Southlake was temporarily evacuated Wednesday as crews assessed a potential gas leak.
After an inspection, the fire department gave the all-clear for students and staff to re-enter the building. Carroll ISD said the day would continue as normal with slight changes to the lunch schedule.
Atmos confirmed to WFAA that their technicians responded to an odor call at Carroll Elementary School on Wednesday.
“The school’s piping failed our natural gas pressure test, so natural gas service to the property was turned off. Southlake Fire Department issued a precautionary evacuation of Carroll Elementary School,” Atmos said in a statement. “The school was turned off due to a customer piping issue, and repairs need to be made before natural gas service can be restored and all safety checks are complete.”
Atmos went on to say "Atmos Energy does not maintain the natural gas lines on the customer’s property beyond the meter."
Atmos said gas service will be restored after a plumber fixes the school piping, city inspections and permits are administered and Atmos Energy conducts a successful pressure test.
