'I’m in shock from all the love and support': DFW community rallies around Latin Deli after windows were smashed

Earlier this month surveillance video captured the moments when a man picked up a rock, and smashed in the front windows of the restaurant.

DALLAS — A more than $4,000 price tag to fix a damaged window has been discouraging for the owner of The Latin Deli, but the outpouring of community support has breathed new life into his business.

The owner Fernando Barrera posted an update on Facebook saying he repaired the front window earlier than expected -- thanks to support from the community.

"It was going to take me four weeks to put my windows back and thanks to the support I was able to do it in a week and a couple of days," said Barrera.

Earlier this month surveillance video captured the moments when a man picked up a rock, and smashed in the front windows of the restaurant. Dallas Police said it happened around 10:30 p.m. and nothing was stolen.

Instead of creating a GoFundMe, Barrera posted on his Facebook that he just wants the customers to support him. And they did just that!

"I have no words and please keep coming because from now on you guys don’t have a business owner you have a friend," said Barrera.

Barrera also said he promises to pay it forward.

"I promise that I will return the kindness to the right person at the right time," he said.

The Latin Deli is located on Abrams Road and has served customers for the past 12 years.
