Bob Gooding, a WFAA-TV (Channel 8) anchor from 1961 to 1979, died Sunday afternoon at his East Texas home. He was 76.

Mr. Gooding, who started with WFAA Radio, had cancer for some time.

Bert Shipp, who worked with Mr. Gooding and had a 40-year career at WFAA-TV, said Mr. Gooding got his WFAA-TV anchor job after he walked by the studio and noticed a line for auditions. Mr. Gooding grabbed a script, joined the line and got the job that very day, Mr. Shipp said.

Mr. Gooding signed off each night with the same phrase, "Better tomorrows."
