Big trucks, toy trucks, fish and more: Labor Day fun at Children's Aquarium Dallas

Children brought toy dump trucks to Children's Aquarium Dallas at Fair Park to have them filled with dirt by a real excavator. Hands-on events are held regularly.

DALLAS — On Labor Day, hundreds of families went to Fair Park to visit Children's Aquarium Dallas

They weren't only there to see the fish and sea animals, but many kids came with their toy dump trucks in hand.

The aquarium held a Touch the Truck event.

Out front, a real yellow excavator was in operation. Partnering with the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation, the excavator and its operators filled the toy dump trucks with dirt.

"We just always want to have something unique and fun for families to do so we have something going on every weekend," said Bree Kramer, Director of Children's Aquarium Dallas. "We appreciate [the city employees] for being out here and showing the kids what they do."

Mike Vitale brought his children, Beck and Miles, to the event.

"It's a benefit to have a children's aquarium here. You can do two things in one," he said.

Three-year-old Beck was excited when he found out in the morning they were heading to the truck event. As he watched his toy dump truck fill with dirt, Beck admired, "Woah! Cool! This is the coolest." After it was full, he and his brother grabbed their trucks and dumped the dirt out.

"This stuff is so great. It makes living in Dallas that much more special," said Mike. "Them getting to see construction vehicles and toys that they play with in real life just adds to the excitement."

The Touch the Truck event is held a few times throughout the year at Children's Aquarium Dallas.
