Wrong-way driver crashes into 18-wheeler on I-30 in Arlington, police say

The crash happened around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-30 near Six Flags Drive, according to a police news release.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A wrong-way driver accused of driving drunk crashed into an 18-wheeler on Interstate 30 in Arlington early Friday morning, police said.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-30 near Six Flags Drive, according to a police news release.

Police said the driver of a 2012 Acura TL got on I-30 in the wrong direction and was heading toward an 18-wheeler truck in the same lane. The driver of the 18-wheeler swerved to try and avoid the wrong-way Acura, but the driver of the Acura also swerved and the crashed into the 18-wheeler, police said.

Both drivers were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Acura was in critical condition, police said. The truck driver had non-life threatening injuries.

The Acura driver faces DWI charges in the crash, police said.

All but one westbound lane was shut down for several hours after the crash, as police investigated.
