ARLINGTON, Texas — A woman was shot and killed by an Arlington resident after breaking into a home overnight while the family was sleeping, police said.
Arlington police told WFAA a family with children were sleeping inside their home, located in the 1300 block of South Pecan Street, when they heard a noise.
Police were told by the residents that their teenage son heard a voice he did not recognize, and the father grabbed a handgun and went to investigate. The father found the woman in the kitchen and told her to leave, but she became confrontational, police said. The woman approached him and the man shot her, Arlington police said.
Police said officers responded at around 2:10 a.m. Thursday to the home, and when they got there, found the woman dead with gunshot wounds.
The residents told police they did not know the woman, nor had ever seen her before. Police said the woman did not have any identification on her and it was not clear why she was there or how she was able to get inside.
No criminal charges have been filed in the incident, police said. WFAA spoke with the family off camera and they did not want to comment on the shooting.
The woman's identity will be released once the Tarrant County Medical Examiner positively identifies her and next of kin have been notified, police said.
