DALLAS — American Airlines said it is prepared for the upcoming Labor Day Weekend, which is expected to bring in a record-breaking amount of travelers to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The Fort Worth-based airline said in a press release that American will serve more than 578,000 customers on nearly 5,000 flights from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3.

American Airlines said this is about 12% more customers departing DFW Airport than the same time last year.

In total, DFW Airport said it is expecting close to 1.4 million travelers between those dates. The busiest days are projected to be Aug. 29, 30 and Sept. 2, which are scheduled to bring in more than 250,000 travelers each day.

American Airlines said it has been preparing for this historically busy summer last year by hiring and training team members and making sure its vendor partners took extreme care with aircraft, equipment and facilities.

"I'm proud of the way our team members have cared for customers and achieved leading recovery through any challenges that impacted our industry," American Airlines Senior Vice President of DFW Operation Jim Moses. "That's thanks to strategic planning and the dedicated work of 25,000 local team members with an unwavering commitment to running a safe and reliable operation for our customers."

Because Labor Day is the final weekend of the summer travel season, it often comes with heavy crowds.

DFW Airport reminds travelers to arrive at the airport at least two hours ahead of their flight time and look into booking parking online.

Over the July 4th weekend, the TSA set a new record. On July 7, for the first time in nearly 25 years, the agency screened more than three million travelers in a single day.
