After tense moments, protest in downtown Dallas ends peacefully

A protest against police brutality grew tense as demonstrators blocked an intersection in downtown Dallas Thursday night.

A protest against police brutality grew tense as demonstrators blocked an intersection in downtown Dallas Thursday night.

A heavy police presence arrived at the scene near St. Paul and Main streets as protesters ignored warnings from officers to stay on the sidewalk.

Arrests appeared to be imminent before the crowd finally retreated to Main Street Garden Park.

Dallas Police tweeted just before 8:40 p.m. that officers were beginning to clear the scene.

The protest came in the wake of deadly officer-involved shootings in Tulsa and North Carolina this week. Protests in Charlotte turned violent Wednesday night, as one demonstrator was shot and eventually died from the wound.
