Suicide listed as manner of death for crash with plane stolen from North Texas flight school, officials say

Texas DPS said a 23-year-old man died in a small plane crash on Jan. 24.

ADDISON, Texas — A man's death has been ruled a suicide after authorities say he stole a plane from a North Texas airport and crashed it in a rural area in late January, officials said Monday.

In a press release at the time from Texas DPS, officials said the crash happened on Jan. 24 about nine miles northeast of Telephone, Texas, near the Red River.

According to the Fannin County Justice of the Peace, the crash victim's manner of death was ruled as a suicide. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, officials said.

According to officials, 23-year-old Logan Timothy James of North Carolina stole a plane from the ATP Flight School in Addison. He was the only one onboard the Cessna 172 plane when it crashed.

Addison officials said the Flight School student left with the aircraft at 6:53 p.m. on Jan. 24. The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. that night.

More information about the incident has not been released.
