45 vehicles involved in Denton County car auction lot fire, officials say

This is the second fire to happen at the lot, after 58 vehicles were involved last Christmas Eve.

DENTON COUNTY, Texas — Dozens of vehicles were involved in a fire early Sunday morning at a Denton County auction lot, officials say.

Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 were called at about 3:56 a.m. to the fire in the 3700 block of McPherson Drive near Justin. A large column of smoke and flames was visible from I-35 West en route to the fire.

Upon arrival, officials say they found between 20 and 30 vehicles involved at the lot. Firefighters were also dispatched from departments in Flower Mound, Justin, Roanoke and Ponder.

The fire was under control by 4:57 a.m., officials say. In total, 45 vehicles were involved in the fire.

Officials say the Denton County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the incident. Officials said on Monday there is no indication of arson at this time, but the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

This is the second fire to occur at the lot in the past six months, following a fire last Christmas Eve, where 58 vehicles were involved.

IAA Holdings owns the facility, about a mile away from Texas Motor Speedway. The company auctions low-value and totaled vehicles for salvage.

Such cars are often scrapped for parts or rebuilt and shipped for use in other countries.

At the time of the Christmas Eve fire, the fire marshal said crews, including All American Towing and Recovery, responded to a similar fire at the same facility in 2019. His office also ruled that smaller incident an accident.

This is a developing story, please check back for details.
