DALLAS — The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) says around 40,000 insurance claims have been filed in relation to storm damage across North Texas and tornadoes in Temple.
On Tuesday morning, storms blew the through the region with strong force -- blowing down trees, damaging homes and causing widespread power outages.
According to ICT, the claims that have been filed are for both property and automobile damages from May 22 to May 28.
ICT recommends that all Texans review their insurance policies to ensure they have the right coverage and protections in place. They also note that it is important to take inventory of your home and document items and valuables to make any claims process easier after the fact.
Following a storm, ICT says you should inspect your property for damage, document any damage you come across, report a claim as soon as possible and keep all of your receipts if you decide to make temporary repairs.
