Lockdown lifted at Midlothian High School after no threat found

School officials say the school was placed on lockdown in response to a possible threat made Friday morning.

Midlothian High School placed on lockdown

DALLAS — Updated at 3:42 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 to show lockdown has lifted and to give updates from Midlothian police.

A lockdown has been lifted at Midlothian High School after authorities found there was no threat. 

There were early reports that a threat against the school had been made, but police said the threat was not real. 

Around 9:30 Friday morning, Midlothian High School reported a lockdown to Midlothian Police after a report of a student displaying a handgun. a student told school officials that they saw what looked like a handgun.

Police searched the entire building and in each classroom and found no handguns or rifles, but did find some pocket knives unrelated to the incident, according to a Nextdoor post from Midlothian Police

There were no arrests, and police are still investigating.

School officials said the district and the police department "take all tips seriously." 

Parents were not allowed to pick up their students during the lockdown. 

The school was placed on lockdown in the morning as a precaution, and the lockdown was lifted Friday afternoon. 

The school stressed on its Facebook page that all students and staff are safe. 

Authorities said no one was allowed to leave or enter the building during the lockdown. 

Midlothian police followed threat assessment protocols and procedures.

MHS says it will continue to update parents as information becomes available.
