ARLINGTON, Texas — A 20-year-old died while doing tree work after hitting a power line, Arlington police said.
Police said he was using a chainsaw when he hit a power line, causing him to be electrocuted.
According to a gofundme created for Carl David Blaylock III, who went by “Tray,” he was helping his uncle trim a tree in Arlington when he died.
Arlington police responded to the reported death at about 1:25 p.m. on May 25. Blaylock died in a tree in the 4600 block of Kelly Elliott Road, according the the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. The medical examiner’s office hasn’t confirmed his official cause of death.
Tray’s father, who is also named Carl David Blaylock, said his son’s death could’ve been prevented.
“I got a phone call, I’m like no there's no way,” Blaylock said. “I was praying to god this ain't true. Then I got there, all you see is your son’s right foot hanging in a tree.”
Tray, a graduate of Timber Creek High School in Keller, was the first in his father’s family to graduate from high school.
“He was a good kid,” Blaylock said.
His sister, Jasmine Blaylock described him as a hard worker who often took on extra jobs to provide for his family. According to his family, Tray and his fiancée have a daughter on the way.
“He was very caring, he loved everybody,” Jasmine said. “He was trying to get his house ready and buy the baby clothes.”
Tray’s family has launched a gofundme to cover his funeral expenses and establish a trust for his unborn child.
His father hopes sharing the story of what happened to Tray will lead to awareness around the dangers of power lines.
Arlington police said no foul play or criminal offenses are suspected in Tray’s death.
