ARLINGTON, Texas — A 2-year-old child died after being hit by a pickup truck in an apartment complex parking lot in Arlington Monday evening, police said.

According to the Arlington Police Department, officers responded to the apartments at 821 N. Center St. around 8:30 p.m. to the report of a 2-year-old lying unresponsive in the parking lot.

Police said the child was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the child as Ethan Rodriguez.

According to police, residents of the complex had found the child and told his family, who was outside looking for him.

Police said they believe Rodriguez got out of his apartment and was wandering around near the entrance of the complex. According to police, during this time, a pickup truck was turning into the complex and hit the child.

Police said they believe the driver initially attempted to check what he hit, but because of the darkness, he didn't see anything and parked his car.

According to police, the driver is cooperative during the investigation.

No arrests have been made.
