14-year-old in critical condition after crashing electric scooter in North Texas

UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas — A 14-year-old male is in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle while he was riding an electric scooter Sunday in University Park, Texas. 

According to a news release from the city, the collision occurred at about 6:44 p.m. when the teen was traveling south on Baltimore Avenue. He reportedly attempted to make a left turn onto Turtle Creek when he crashed into the other vehicle. 

The city said the driver immediately stopped and called for help and University Park police and fire departments arrived to the scene within a few minutes.

The victim, who the city said was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was taken to Parkland Hospital, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. 

"Our thoughts are with the victim and his family during this difficult time," the city said in a news release. 

According to the city, the details of the accident are under investigation.
