UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas — A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after being involved in a five-vehicle crash at the intersection of Preston Road and Lovers Lane Friday evening, police said.
According to the city of University Park, police and fire crews responded to the crash at the intersection around 6:36 p.m.
The city said a Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound on Lovers Lane at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light and hit another car heading north on Preston Road.
According to the city, the crash pushed the vehicle into three other vehicles that were stopped at the red light heading west on Lovers Lane.
Witnesses said the suspect attempted to flee the scene, but one of them was able to temporarily detain them, the city said.
According to the city, the suspect then broke free and was arrested by police shortly after about a block away.
The city said paramedics arrived around 6:38 p.m. and found a woman dead at the scene and a man in critical condition in the first car that was hit by the suspect.
The man was taken to Presbyterian hospital where he remains in critical condition, the city said.
According to the city, two additional victims were examined by paramedics and determined to have no injuries.
The names of the victims have not been released at this time.
The city said this is an ongoing investigation.
