LAKE DALLAS - Texts sent out from students at Lake Dallas Middle School after a boy was taken to a nearby hospital claim the student attempted to commit suicide on campus Thursday.
The boy is in stable condition, said the superintendent of the Lake Dallas Independent School District. Some parents said the incident involved a seventh grade boy.
While officials from the school confirmed there was an incident involving a student on campus, they did not release any details.
However, several parents at the school said they received texts from their children saying that a student at the school attempted to commit suicide.
Please be assured district administrators are currently assisting campus personnel in responding to this incident and ensuring that the well-being of students and staff is being addressed, read a statement from Charlie Lokey, Lake Dallas ISD.
The district has been dealing with the issue of teen suicide over the last few weeks. A 17-year-old from a district high school and a 14-year-old from a middle school both committed suicide. Both incidents happened off campus over the last six weeks.
In the span that we've seen it, it's not a normal thing, said Zach Moore, a junior at Lake Dallas High.
The district set up a teen crisis panel prior to Thursday's incident. The subject is teen suicide and will take place Tuesday at Lake Dallas High School.
As a parent, you want to know what's going on and what's best for your children, said Marilyn Rojas, who learned of Thursday's incident when picking up her child from school. So, the district, so far, has been great after the incident that happened over spring break.
Later in the day Thursday, emergency crews were once again on the scene at Lake Dallas Middle School after a woman with high blood pressure was said to have gotten a bloody nose during a meeting at the school. She is said to be in good condition.
