DALLAS – Two of Dallas County's top elected officials haven't spoken for the better part of a year.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins told reporters Tuesday that he had not seen in person or spoken to embattled Dallas Co. District Attorney Susan Hawk in nine or ten months.
Hawk's office said the two have been in contact via text and e-mail, and those forms of communication had been sufficient.
The district attorney recently returned to work after a prolonged absence to treat severe depression.
Jenkins said, and Hawk's office confirmed, they will have their first face-to-face meeting next week.
"It is what it is," Jenkins said.
Jenkins said he is in regular contact with Hawk's staff, but said he used to have weekly calls with previous district attorney Craig Watkins. Watkins is a Democrat, like Jenkins, while Hawk ran for district attorney as a Republican.
A spokesperson said it's possible the two could decide to meet more frequently at next week's meeting.
