Residents around Possum Kingdom Lake should expect rising waters after floodgate opened

Horseshoe Bend residents could see minor flooding once a third floodgate is opened Thursday.

The Brazos River Authority will open a third floodgate Thursday night at Possum Kingdom Lake’s Morris Sheppard Dam.

The total release of water is expected to reach about 28,000 cubic feet per second. It could cause minor flooding for those living in the Horseshoe Bend area.

The Texas Department of Transportation will close the Highway 16 bridge that sits below the dam starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Residents of the area should expect to see an increase in water levels around 8 a.m. Friday.
