DALLAS — A brand new emergency department will soon open at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in southern Dallas.
Crews are busy assembling furniture, decorating spaces, and putting on the finishing touches on the hospital’s new emergency department.
“We are so happy to be able to provide this kind of a space for our community,” said Fran Laukaitis, President of Methodist Charlton Medical Center.
The new space is expanding the hospital’s emergency resources from a 45-bed capacity to 70 beds. It will include eight triage rooms and space for more ambulances.
“We have between 50 and 80 ambulances a day that come to our hospital and over 200 patients that come in a 24-hour period,” Laukaitis explained.
The new and larger emergency department also means more staff to handle patient needs.
”We’re looking forward to the change,” said Phylisha Oliver, a registered nurse.
Change also means greater access to newer technology at the Level 3 Trauma Center and Stroke Center. Staff said they were intentional about bringing in the highest technical equipment.
Paying attention to the layout and design were also priorities. Long halls and strategically placed offices were priority in considering the proximity of patients to physicians and nurses, as the demand for emergency services in the region continues to increase.
“There’s going to be no more wait. Newer facility. Newer equipment. Just newer everything,” explained Dr. Jeff Butterfield.
A $71 million investment is making the new emergency department possible.
”I think it’s a complete game-changer. I think it speaks to Methodist's commitment to the southern sector,” Laukaitis said.
Methodist Charlton Medical Center’s new emergency department is located at the corner of W. Wheatland Road and Bolton Boone Drive in Dallas, Texas. The Emergency Department officially opens to patients Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023.
