Twelve weeks ago, we set off on a fitness journey with four North Texans:
- Stephen, an SMU graduate student
- LaToya, a nurse
- Mark, a grandfather
- Amy an account manager
In January, each person sat down with us and shared their specific fitness goals for 2018:
Stephen: "I probably have a weight goal of 200. I'm about 225 right now."
LaToya: "I would like to lose 10 pounds, and I would like my cholesterol to be a little lower."
Mark: “I come from a family with heart problems, so, the cardio side of this is really important to me."
Amy: “My goal is to shed a few pounds and get my strength back...I used to be a little bit stronger."
All four committed to working out between three and five times per week at Orange Theory Fitness where they were coached through a series of cardio and strength training exercises. They also agreed to share their struggles and successes through a Facebook group we created called “2018: Fitter Together.”
Over the course of the challenge, it wasn't always easy.
Each shared the following social media posts along the way:
FEBRUARY 13:
Mark: My blood pressure has dropped 10 percent!
FEBRUARY 22:
Stephen: I made a healthy brunch instead of going to get a boozy brunch.
MARCH 11:
LaToya: I have another freaking cold… hoping to rejoin the land of the living sometime next week.
MARCH 15:
Amy: Today’s workout was intense!
In February, we did a mid-point check in with Facebook Live about the group’s experiences so far:
Now, 12 weeks later, they’re ready to reveal how much their hard work has paid off.
Stephen is down 11 pounds and is well on his way to his 200 pound goal! He’s gained significant muscle, feels faster, stronger and is getting better sleep.
LaToya has lost 7 pounds and said her clothes fit better than ever!
Amy shed 8 pounds and said running has become much easier for her.
Mark’s main goal to improve his heart health has been achieved! Not only has he reduced his blood pressure, but he’s lost 7 pounds, has more energy and said he’s sleeping better as well.
You can still join our Facebook health accountability group “2018: Fitter Together.” We have a new 8-week challenge starting at the end of April with four fresh faces!
