One Medical, a membership-based primary care service operated by Amazon.com Inc., recently opened its first location in Plano.

The office debuted Sept. 30 at the Shops at Legacy, marking One Medical's fifth location in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro. Others are in Addison, Highland Park, University Park and Dallas' West 7th District.

The company offers same-day or next-day appointments, 24/7 virtual care services and on-site labs. Those that opt into an annual membership receive personalized care from a primary care provider who arranges care across One Medical's five offices and Baylor Scott & White Health specialists. Currently, the firm has a total of eight providers in the DFW area, including two at it's newest space in Plano.

Memberships cost $199 per year. However, Amazon Prime members receive a roughly 50% discount, reducing the cost to $99 annually or $9 per month.

The company declined to share lease terms. A One Medical spokesperson said the company selects locations "that offer value and accessibility for new and existing members where they work, shop and live."

More than 100 million Americans face barriers to accessing primary care, according to a 2023 study by the National Association of Community Health Centers and HealthLandscape at the American Academy of Family Physicians.

These barriers include high costs, provider shortages and excessive appointment wait times. One Medical believes that by offering a hybrid primary care service, it can reduce the number of Americans with inadequate access to health care, according to an announcement.

"This expansion underscores our ongoing commitment to making exceptional primary care widely accessible across Texas, in partnership with Baylor Scott & White Health," Dr. Greg Hayes, Dallas district medical director of One Medical, said in a statement.
