ROWLETT, Texas — The convicted gunman who shot and killed a Rowlett woman in 2015 received a life sentence behind bars Wednesday.
Jesus Trevino was sentenced to life in prison without the eligibility of parole.
Laura Grillo, 37, was found shot in the head on Nov. 13, 2015, a week before she was set to be married to one of the three suspects, Ioannis "John" Makris, 38.
Police said Makris paid Jesus Trevino and third suspect, James Villeda, to kill his fiancée.
Villeda, the driver involved in the murder, received a 25-year sentence in a plea deal. Makris also received life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Grillo was also a former volunteer with the Rowlett Police Department and a mother of three. Rowlett police posted a tribute on their Facebook page.
"On behalf of the Rowlett Police Department, thank you Laura, we still miss you. Allow us to help you this time as we honor your memory. God speed," the post read.
