GRANBURY, Texas — The father of a Granbury Middle School eighth-grader says he is anxiously waiting to learn more from police about their investigation into what happened to his daughter at school.
They are a close-knit family who had a close call that he says has him hugging her a lot tighter these days. Calvin Baker will be the first one to tell you, his daughter Hannah is a daddy's girl. So when he got the telephone call about her getting sick from tainted candy at school, he said, "It's one of the worst phone calls you could ever get in your life."
Hannah and seven other eighth-graders at Granbury Middle School ate candy from a classmate. Shortly afterwards they were rushed to the hospital. Hannah and classmate Victoria described the effects of that candy during an exclusive interview earlier this week.
The two girls explained that the classmate who gave them the candy told them it was a gift from her grandmother. They say they did not see the classmate herself eat any of the candy, which they described as Twizzlers like the Red Vine Brand.
Hannah, "I felt really dizzy. My heart was going really fast. I felt like I was really sick," Hannah saud.
"I did pass out and I am not sure how many kids passed out," Victoria said.
Granbury police say the candy at school tested negative for THC and requires more testing. Calvin says he needs his questions about the candy answered.
"What was in them? If we are still waiting on one screen and it comes back negative, how else can we get answers," Calvin said.
Although Hannah has not returned to school, she and the other victims say they're being bullied about what happened.
Her father has a message for people posting negative comments.
Calvin Baker, "Stop hate and stop bullying each other. Let's be supportive. These as of what happened to them. I mean, they're traumatized," Calvin said.
Granbury ISD told WFAA it is awaiting word from the police on new developments. Either way, as Hannah recovers and celebrates the holidays with her family, her father and other parents say they want someone held accountable.
