A former Irving music teacher has been charged in another case of indecency with a child involving a 9-year-old student, police said Friday.
Charles Barrera was fired last year after police arrested him in an initial case involving a 10-year-old girl, who told investigators Barrera touched her inappropriately in his elementary school classroom.
Another victim recently made an outcry about an alleged incident that happened while Barrera was teaching at Lee Britain Elementary School in Irving, police announced Friday. The allegations happened during classroom hours, over the past few years, police said.
Barrera has been released from jail on bond.
Barrera had been investigated last year for "unwanted contact" involving three students, but the allegations, at the time, "amounted to simple assault," police said. More children came forward alleging sexual misconduct after Barrera's arrest last year, police said.
Police urged parents to speak with their children about the dangers of inappropriate contact. Anyone who believes their child might have been touched inappropriately is asked to contact police.
