MIDLOTHIAN - Three of five workers burned in a Midlothian cement plant accident Thursday evening have been listed in critical condition.
The incident happened at the TXI Cement Company plant off Highway 67 in Midlothian. Three of the victims were transported by helicopter to Parkland Hospital. The other two were taken to area hospitals by ambulance.
Firefighters said the injuries were sustained in an industrial accident, adding that there was no explosion.
At this point, we don t have a lot of details, said David Perkins, a spokesman for TXI, in a statement released early Thursday evening. We can confirm that five workers were injured while performing maintenance activities in the main processing area of TXI s Midlothian plant. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families.
The accident happened in a kiln, which is used in the cement-making process.
The entire team from the Midlothian Fire Department was on the scene early Thursday evening. They also received assistance from the Mansfield and Cedar Hill fire departments.
