Father's Day in the Cook Children's NICU celebrates dads in a stressful time

From dad of newborns to superhero, Cook Children's Medical Center celebrates Father's Day.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Cook Children's Medical Center is working to bring normalcy to a stressful time.

The staff in Fort Worth celebrated Father’s Day weekend with many of the new dads by dressing them up as they welcome their new baby to the world.

“We want to help families, want to help them cope with being in the hospital, being in the NICU,” Worley said. “And when we have holidays or celebrations like Father’s Day we want to do those normalization, normal things, and get to celebrate and honor our dads.”

“They were born June 7, very unexpectedly at 32 weeks,” Presley said. “It kind of happened really fast and they were rushed here to the hospital and they’ve been in the NICU ever since, but they’re doing really, really well.”

Elias took part in a NICU activity this week when staff dressed up dads as superheroes, as they held their newborns.

“We want to celebrate those dads and honor them and do those father day pictures and do superheroes because they are superheroes,” Worley said.

“We wanted to have a little bit of fun,” Worley added. “It was really fun to see them all in their superhero gear and feel as strong as they are.”

The Trajos are so grateful for this comforting experience in a stressful time.

“Everybody has just made us so comfortable and has made us feel like we’re taken care of, we don’t have anything to worry about,” Presley said.

“I’m just beyond happy that we have them,” Elias said.
